‘X Factor’ winner Burke’s single ‘Bad Boys’, which features US rapper Flo Rida, went straight to the top of the singles chart.

‘Bad Boys’ is now the fastest-selling single of the year so far, beating previous record-holder Dizzee Rascal’s ‘Bonkers’ by a considerable margin, according to the Official Charts Company.

It’s the second consecutive Number One for Burke, following her 2008 Christmas Number One ‘Hallelujah’.

Robbie Williams’ comeback single ‘Bodies’ entered in the second place spot, despite selling 90,000 copies.

The AP Press is reporting that Alexandra’s hit single ‘Hallelujah’ is a hit song at funerals.

Purists might argue that X Factor winner Alexandra Burke’s cover of the Leonard Cohen classic Hallelujah amounted to musical murder, but the song is proving a surprise hit at funerals.

A survey of more than 30,000 funerals last year found that hymns are declining in popularity, with popular music now accounting for more half of the songs played - except in Scotland, where hymns still hold sway.

Burke’s Hallelujah was 25th in the chart of popular songs - the first time a reality TV star has appeared on the list.

Frank Sinatra’s version of My Way is the most popular funeral piece, followed by Wind Beneath My Wings and Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman’s warbling duet Time To Say Goodbye.

Alexandra Burke’s debut single Hallelujah has slipped down to #3 on the UK singles charts after a 3 week run at #1. This is not bad news, especially it being Alexandra’s very first single. The single still holds the #1 spot on the Irish charts. Congratulations ALEX!

Alexandra Burke’s debut single “Hallelujah” (Syco/Sony Music Entertainment) has joined an exclusive club of top-selling singles artists in the U.K. after less than four weeks.

According to the Official Charts Co, the cover of the Leonard Cohen song by the winner of music TV talent show “The X Factor” has sold 17,645 copies so far this week. Its total sale since its release on Dec. 14 is 1.027 million.

It means that Burke now has one of only 10 million-selling singles of the new millennium. She is at ninth place in the list of million-sellers, ahead of children’s favorite “Can You Fix It” (BBC) by Bob The Builder.

Will Young, a former winner of “Pop Idol” in the U.K., has the biggest-selling single of the millennium with sales of 1.79 million for “Anything Is Possible/Evergreen” (RCA).

The U.K.’s final weekly sales charts of 2008, published yesterday (Dec. 28), saw Alexandra Burke and Take That retain their singles and album crowns, respectively.

“X Factor” winner Burke’s “Hallelujah” (Syco Music/Sony BMG) sold another 311,000 copies during the chart week ending Dec. 27 to take her two-week total to a giant 888,000. Take That’s “The Circus” sold a further 133,000 units for a running total of 1,446,000, making it the second fastest-selling million-seller in U.K. album history.

“The Circus” also places second on the OCC’s year-end album sales index. Duffy’s “Rockferry” (A&M/Universal) was the U.K.’s bestselling album of the year, with 1,685,000 units, and the “Mamma Mia!” soundtrack, which qualifies for the separate compilation chart, was the only various artists set to top one million sales, at 1,007,000. The year’s three “Now! That’s What I Call Music” compilations, volumes 71, 70 and 69, all came close, with sales of 964,000, 865,000 and 833,000 copies, respectively.
