Hi guys, it’s Alexandra Burke here and I’m raring to go with my exclusive new Chart Chat for Yahoo! omg! Join me every week as I give you the lowdown on what I think about the official Top 40 with Alex’s Chart Chat!

This week there have been some storming new entries and the No.1 is that DJ Fresh and Rita Ora song ‘Hot Right Now’ which I think is a really unusual collaboration artist-wise, but I think the track is a great blend of sounds and I really do like her as a vocal artist. I’ve known of Rita for a couple of years and she reminds me a bit of Rihanna, she has a similar swag to her and of course they are from the same family – the famed Roc Nation!

As for DJ Fresh, this man is on a roll! This is his second No.1 single after his track ‘Louder’ went to No.1 back in July last year. I’m intrigued to see what else is to come from this man!

I’m also over the moon for Emeli Sande for getting the No.1 spot in the albums chart! I’m a huge fan of hers and I really respect her as she just does her thing, and I really hope the album stays at the No.1 spot for a while. ‘Daddy’ is one of my favourite tracks on the album and her voice is just flawless. I worked with Emeli on my album, and again I was just so impressed with her talent. She must be absolutely chuffed as she has a No.1 album AND a new entry in the singles chart with ‘Next To Me’ going in at No.2. I should imagine there were a lot of celebrations in that household over the weekend!

As for new tunes, I’m absolutely loving the Gotye single at the moment, it’s a track called ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’! It’s just totally blown up and I love the lyrics as well as the video! The video is very simple and low budget, yet it works very effectively. I was in Denmark recording when I first heard this track and it immediately stuck in my mind. i just can’t stop listening to it.

This is on repeat on my stereo at the moment, alongside the new Chris Brown track ‘Turn Up The Music’ which is a massive tune! Another song that is always far too loud in my car is the Wretch 32 and Josh Kumra track ‘Don’t Go’ – the man just has an amazing voice and I never tire of listening to it!

So there’s a lot of good music out there at the moment, and I’m intrigued to see what new music will be coming through next week! With The Brits this week I’m fairly certain we will see Adele shoot straight off back up the chart!.

Alex Gives New Interview With 4Music
Filed Under: Interviews,News With Comments Off

Alexandra sat down with 4Music for an in-depth interview in which she talks about everything from the new album sound, to plans of the American launch and some rumored collaborations.

Believe me, Beasties, this interview is full of great info. that you’ll all want to check out.

Elephant is very different to, say, Start Without You. How did that clubbier sound emerge?

I’ve been writing this album for a very long time. I’ve been working on it for about a year and a few months. I had three weeks of a writing camp when I came back from the States and that’s when Elephant came to life. My A&R said it was such a great track that we should try and get Erick Morillo on. It took less than 24 hours for him to say Yes. He produced it. It didn’t take much encouragement from me to think it would be my first single from July last year, but Erick put the icing on the cake. He made it happen.

It is really different to the music that I’ve done but I don’t have a fear of doing something different and being a little bit dangerous. My sophomore album is a risk but I love it because I’m doing things that are slightly out of my comfort zone and out of the box. I’m growing up. If I want to talk about it, I’m gonna talk about it, whether that be sex, love, rock’n’roll, anything. I’m a woman now!

Is Elephant representative of the sound of the album as a whole?

It’s very, very different to what else is on there. What I really wanted to achieve with this album was great music and allow people to have fun. Although I’m talking about serious situations, it will still hopefully make the listener get up, boogie and have a good night out. It’s very colourful, it’s loud, it’s bold. It’s really in your face!
I’ve taken inspiration from 90s club anthems. That’s had a major influence on my album. It’s big songs.

How many singles before the album drops?

Maximum of three. Who knows? I could throw the album out there for free next week. Who knows what my crazy self will do?
I wanted to give a double-disc album, but I was shut down so hard. I would say a maximum of 14 songs but I wanted it to be a lot more. From single two, my fans will definitely be getting some B-sides. With Elephant there is a Breathless version of Elephant, which is completely stripped back and slowed down, just a piano and me. The reaction is always that it’s never going to work but it’s amazing.

Check out 4Music for the full interview.

Blog: That Dreaded Date in February…
Filed Under: Blogs,Huffington Post Blog,News With 1 comment

Alexandra has written a new blog for The Huffington Post and in this one she speaks about Valentines day and gives some very good relationship advice.

Be sure to catch up on the latest blog below.

Hey everyone… hope everyone is good and surviving the cold!

So after the drudge of January comes February, and the day that most females either love or hate depending on your relationship status… it’s the dreaded Valentine’s Day!

I never know how to feel about Valentine’s Day. I think it was always a funny one when I was younger… although now I am so busy I don’t really have time to give it a second thought. For example, I’m in full promo swing at the moment for my new single Elephant, and last week I flew to Denmark for two days to finish some bits for the album and then was holed up in rehearsals for the rest of the week… so my mind doesn’t perhaps play on it as much as it did when I was a bit younger!

If you had asked me five years ago where I would be today, I would have said that I wanted the whole lot – before X Factor I was really into being part of a couple and being in a long-term relationship. I wanted the boyfriend, the marriage and the kids (although that part would be in years to come!) but now my views have really changed.

When you are in a relationship outside of the spotlight it’s hard enough to keep the spark going, but trying to do that in the media glare can be quite challenging. I dread the question in every interview I do when they ask me about my relationships. I’m pretty open in interviews and will talk about most things, but that is one thing I do try to keep to myself as to whether I am single or in a relationship – because the moment that relationship stops and it breaks up, it’s a huge new story. Sometimes I don’t really want to talk about those things, that’s a part of my life I like to keep to myself.

My mum always used to say to me that you must remain single for your male fans (my mum was the former lead singer of Soul II Soul) but I disagree with that – I don’t think that has any sway on my fans, I don’t think they would be that affected by it. For some artists however it can play a part. From a male point of view it can be different I think as sometimes the female fans can be a bit more tricky, and feel like they have more of a hold over the artists. I think that just shows how dedicated fans can be though – fans do really make the whole music cycle keep turning, they are the crux of everything and I am so thankful to my loyal fans who have been their supporting me from day one.

So, for me the whole relationship thing is just something that I’m putting on the backburner and something that will come later. I’m having far too much fun at the moment and doing the job of my dreams so a girl really can’t complain.

Although saying that… if anyone wants to send me a card, some chocolates and whisk me away for a romantic dinner I wouldn’t say no!

The clip features a bit of the smashing choreography and a quick chat with choreographer and video star Jay Revell & also Alex’s sister Sheniece.

We can’t wait to see the final edit!

Alexandra Burke has revealed a behind-the-scenes clip of her new music video exclusively on Digital Spy.

The singer is seen dancing in a warehouse with her friends in the promo for her new single ‘Elephant’, which features Colombian DJ Erick Morillo.

Burke said: “The concept of the video is really me showing my ex-boyfriend what he’s missing, and now he sees this new girl transformed because she’s broken up with him.

“What I love about music videos is the fact that I get to have some fun. It’s a really nice way to just live with the song, perform it, have fun with it [and] dance my little socks off.”

The director admitted that he “really wanted to create something different,” during the shoot, adding: “I felt it was a little unexpected and people [can] see Alexandra Burke and think this is a new side of her.”

MTV Buzzworthy Gives Great Review of “Elephant”
Filed Under: Albums,News With Comments Off

MTV Buzzworthy has given Alexandra’s new single “Elephant” a great review on their website.

Calling it a new “giant-size dance floor anthem”, its definitely a review worth reading. Massive thanks to the entire MTV crew for the great words!

t’s been just over a year since “X Factor UK” Season 5 winner Alexandra Burke released her last single, “The Silence,” as she’s busily been recording the follow-up to her No. 1 2009 studio album, Overcome. Now, she’s returning in a massive way (PUN!) with “Elephant,” crafted by acclaimed dance producer Erick Morillo (Reel 2 Real).

The giant-size (PUN!) dance-floor anthem finds Burke breaking against the pressure of a relationship on the rocks. “There’s an elephant standing in the room/Although we’re all alone, it’s not just me and you,” she croons off the top of the chorus. Packed full of scorching arena-size synthesizers, crystalline Auto-Tuned vocals, and early ’90s vibrations (no doubt Morillo’s influence), the production is fairly off-the-walls — but in a best way possible. While the song only hit radio last week, one thing seems fairly certain: It’s going to be big. (PUN!!!).

Alex Speaks With ‘Daily Star’ On New Material
Filed Under: Albums,News With Comments Off

Alex recently spoke with Daily Star about her brand new album + sound as well as speakinga bout DJ Erick Morillo, who she’s been working closely with.

Check out what she had to say and when we should be expecting new material below!

Alexandra Burke is ready to make her a big comeback with help from Colombian DJ legend Erick Morillo. And the former X Factor champ also wants another crack on the judging panel of telly’s top talent show.

Alex told me: “I’ve been doing some amazing stuff with him in LA. One track in particular is very special.

“Erick is a very talented producer and I’m sure I will be working with him a lot. “It’s not strictly a banging album. It’s fun, loud, up-tempo, in your face, it has a lot of colours.

“It’s very different to Overcome. This one is a bit more womanly, sexier. I’ve taken more risks.

“I’ve done six albums- worth of songs. Hopefully it will be out for Easter.”

She said: “X Factor was insane, I got the call four hours before we went on air. “I was shopping for my little brother for his birthday, so I was very nervous. It was an honour. I’d love to do it again.”
